Food Photography
Cooking (Ages 8-11) (11:00-12:30 PM)

Teacher: Stephanie Sherry

Enroll you child in the Art of Cooking to begin learning an important life skill.  It is never to early to begin understanding good nutrition, safe kitchen habits, kitchen hygiene and preparing simple nutritious meals for themselves and others.  Through cooking they will enhance their math skills by measuring and counting  and sharpen their reading skills as they read and follow recipes.

I will introduce kitchen tools, how to use the tools and various appliances in the kitchen.  Learn to read and follow recipes, understand package labels, plan and prepare a shopping list for a meal, proper cleaning techniques and kitchen safety.  We will develop basic knife skills with a beginners knife set, proper food storage, basic table setting and etiquette skills.

Each week we will prepare at least one item that students will either eat in class or take home to share with their family.  At first, we will be learning knife skills and preparing fruit kabobs, veggie kabobs, drinks/smoothies and a snack tray for a party or appetizer before your family meal.  We will then learn some simple yet delicious crock pot recipes.  As we become more comfortable with our skills of cutting and measuring we will advance to more multi-step dinner entrees and baking.  I plan to discuss our busy lives and how we can prepare meals to freeze and pull out at the last minute to make a meal (each student will prepare one to bring home and prepare on their own in a crockpot).

*A class fee will be applied to students taking this class to supplement extra food purchases.

Tempura
Cooking (Ages 12+) (9:00-10:30 AM)

Teacher: Andraia Lee

Tired of worrying about kids' breakfast, lunch, and dinner? Hopefully our 12 and up cooking class can take some of the work off of the parents! The goal of this class is to teach students measurements, kitchen safety, kitchen sanitation, table etiquette, as well as recipes that students can take home with little to not help prepping. We will do a little of it all in this fun elective!

Colorful Pens
Life Skills with Crafts (Ages 8-11) (9:30-11:00 AM)

Teacher: Stephanie Sherry

Join us as we experience the wonderful world of creativity and create a new project each week using various techniques and materials. Some weeks we will incorporate a life skill into our project.

Crafting activities will provide a sense of achievement and pride in your child and boost their self-confidence. Crafting helps with building their cognitive, physical and social development. Your child will develop fine motor skills, enhance dexterity, improve hand-eye coordination, enhance self-expression, decision making, visual learning, math skills and socializing.

During this class we will be creating items your child will be excited to share with you and others. We will be making items for various holidays, gifts to share, home displays and items personalized for them. Some weeks our activity will include an addition of a life's skill. Such as making a gift box where we will add cookies we make during class. We will learn to sew on buttons as we make a stuffed cat. While making birthday and thank you cards we will learn how special it is to remember someone with well wishes or thanks and addressing envelopes. This class will be fun and challenging for your child as it will involve multi-step projects.

I am a strong believer in 'random acts of kindness' and will be adding simple yet beautiful items for your child to make that will be shared with a local assisted living facility or nursing home. Such as, various holiday cards, banners or other uplifting items to put a smile on the residents faces and a sense of pride in your student knowing they are making someone happy. Note: no child's name or photos will be shared.

On the first day of class each student will be making a tote to hold class materials/tools they will need to bring to each class. I also recommend that you include in the bag a shirt/apron for your child to wear when we use paints, glues or sharpie markers.
